Michael Orr is an Atlanta-based visual poet and artist with over a decade of practice in visual poetry (vispo), asemic writing, collage, illustration, and found poetry. His work has been published internationally in books, chapbooks, and journals — including Timglaset Editions (Sweden), Paper View Books (Portugal), Simulacrum Press (Canada), Otoliths, and IceFloe Press — and he works as a mail artist and independent chapbook and zine publisher.
Orr's work lives at the intersection of text and image, treating language as raw visual material rather than a carrier of fixed meaning. Across vispo, asemic writing, and collage, he builds pieces where the arrangement of marks and words matters as much as what they say, drawing on the traditions of concrete poetry, mail art, and intermedia work.
Orr often begins from found materials, fragments of language, and collaboration — he has made work with poets and artists including Volodymyr Bilyk, Texas Fontanella, Gary Barwin, and Samuel Strathman. He lets the materials guide the piece, working through asemic gesture and collage until text dissolves into image. The result ranges from page-based poems and chapbooks to sculpture, installations, and one-of-a-kind canvas prints.
